| Region A - greater than 30° latitude; interior Australia and southern coastal |
| Region A is further divided into regions A1 - A7 based mainly on wind directional differences |
| Region B - less than 30° latitude; coastal parts of northern Australia that are not cyclonic |
| Region C - coastal parts of northern Australia that are considered cyclonic; less than 25° on east coast and less than 27° on west coast |
| Region D - between 20° and 25° on west coast; severe cyclonic |
